The short version
To run a water quality report, we only need your ZIP code. No account, no name, no email. ZIP in, report out. We don't store your ZIP or connect it to you in any way.
What we collect — and what we don't
Running a report
A ZIP code. That's it. We look up the utility serving that ZIP, pull the relevant data from our copy of EPA records, and return the report. The ZIP is used to route the request — it is not stored, logged to a user profile, or connected to any identifying information.
Email capture (optional)
If you sign up to be notified when your city's data becomes available, we collect your email address and city. This is entirely optional and only available where data isn't yet live. Your email is stored securely in our database. It is never sold, never shared with third parties, and never used for anything other than the notification you requested. You can ask to be removed at any time by emailing aimee@waterhealthcheck.com.
Analytics
We may use basic, privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are visited and how the tool is used. If we do, it is aggregated and does not identify individuals. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
The data in reports
All water quality data shown in reports comes from public federal sources — EPA SDWIS, UCMR5, and state supplementary data. We do not hold, collect, or create private water data. We access the same public records that regulators, journalists, and researchers use.
Cookies
We do not use tracking cookies. Any cookies set are strictly functional — necessary for the site to operate — and do not track you across other sites or sessions.
Third parties
We do not sell your data. We do not share personal data with third parties except where technically necessary to operate the service (for example, our hosting provider). We have no affiliate data-sharing relationships.
